Monica & Gary

As I already mentioned in my post below, Monica and Gary had the most elusive of experiences on their wedding day...they had sunshine in Vancouver.  With Spring, 2008 known more for the record cold temperatures and a distinct absence of sunlight, we could only cross our fingers and hope for the best on the morning of this wedding.  But, as we drove across the bridge from North Vancouver, there was a glimmer of hope off to the west - a patch of blue sky - that we hoped was a sign of the day ahead.

We started with Monica as she finished her final prep for the day.  Surrounded by her bridesmaids and parents, she was amazingly calm.  Even as the frenzy of arriving relatives began, Monica's demeanor never changed.  As Gary and the guys arrived to "barter" for the bride, Monica slipped into her dress and waited patiently.

After the limbo, hula hoop, and a number of other games, we headed out to Steveston to do their portraits before the wedding.  Monica and Gary did something very unique leading up to their wedding - they did several engagement sessions with us in and around Vancouver (one for each season), so we had already been to many of the places we love to work in.  Steveston was one place we hadn't yet explored with them and we had a lot of fun walking around the village.

As I mentioned in their Sneak Peek, apparently one of the locals took offense to the fact that we weren't using the park up the road and had, instead, chosen a "crappy" location.  Well, I hope the lady finds our blog and sees that the spots we chose were, in fact, just perfect for the kind of images we wanted to make that day.  And she needn't have worried, we did stop in the park on our way to the ceremony, and put our own stamp on the "pretty" location.

Here are some of our favorite images from their session:

Monica & Gary...thank you so much for including us in your wedding day.  It was a wonderful event for us and we can't wait to show you everything we made for you.

For those of you that are photographers, or want to be photographers, or who just love playing with a camera, all of these images were made on Canon 5Ds, in JPEG and worked on exclusively with the Boutwell's TRA2 - The Revenge.  Yes, you read that right...these images are JPEGS, and the skies are not added later ;)

Hey guys: I was wondering if you can share your exposure on the shot with the bride and the bridesmaids? I was wondering if you shot that in manual mode or aperture priority and if AP how much over exposed? I just love that frame with the light wrapping around the veil. It looks magical. Sometimes when I'm doing the same thing, I find that I don't overexpose enough to get the faces to pop like that.
hey guys... it's been awhile, but i thought i would stop in and say AMAZING work. these photos are fantastic!!!!
